Privacy

Effective 10 July 2026

carparks.je is a free app with no accounts. We don't know who you are, and we'd like to keep it that way. This page lists everything the app processes, in plain English.

What stays on your phone

Your precise location (used for the map, walking routes, and drive times), the text you type into search, and your history of places and trips (which powers smart suggestions) are stored only on your device. None of it is sent to our servers. You can wipe the history any time in Settings → Privacy → Clear on-device history. Location is "while using the app" only; we never track you in the background. Destination search itself is provided by Apple Maps, so your searches are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.

Calendar suggestions are optional and off until you turn them on. If you do, the app reads your calendar on the device to spot events in town and suggest where to park before each one. Your events (titles, locations, times) never leave your phone, and the optional analytics below only ever learn that a suggestion was shown or used, never what the event was. Turn it off any time in Settings → Calendar Event Suggestions, or revoke the app's calendar access in iOS Settings.

What reaches our servers

1. Usage analytics (optional)

The app sends small events like "recommendation viewed" or "destination selected" so we can spot bugs and improve the recommendations. Before anything is sent, locations are reduced on your device to coarse buckets (a parish or town zone, a distance band, a place category like shop), so precise coordinates and search text never reach us in any form. Each event carries Apple's per-app device identifier (IDFV, which resets if you reinstall), a per-launch session id, and basics like app version, OS version, device model, locale and timezone. Events are kept for 18 months, then deleted automatically.

You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy → Share usage analytics. The switch disables both our own events and Google Analytics collection, and nothing in the app stops working.

2. Crash reports

If the app crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends us a report with the stack trace, device model and OS version so we can fix it. No location, no identity.

What we never collect

Who processes it

Our servers run on Google Cloud and Firebase (Google), and push notifications and map search go through Apple. Both act as processors for the data described above; we share with no one else.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you can ask what we hold, ask us to delete it, or object to processing (that's what the analytics switch does). For access or deletion requests, email privacy@carparks.je. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

This website

The carparks.je website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or trackers, so there's nothing to consent to.
